Work on all the three railway bridges being built by the army, has progressed with the steel panels that will be used to create them having landed at the sites, and the assembly process set to begin at Ambivli on Thursday. The deadline for the other two bridges at Parel/Elphinstone and Currey Road has been extended to February 15, from the initial January 31.
The army is constructing Bailey bridges, which are essentially assembled from steel panels, and are safe for the heaviest of passenger movements, in all the three locations. The steel panels that will be joined like Lego parts to build the bridges have now arrived at the sites but technical and other related work could delay the work at Parel/Elphinstone and Currey Road.
Work on construction of the bridge will be undertaken at Ambivli for five hours between 10 am and 3pm on Thursday to launch two steel girders for the 3.759 metre wide Foot Over Bridge. A number of local train services and four long-distance trains, including the Jabalpur-CSMT Garib Rath Express leaving Jabalpur today, Manmad-LTT Godavari Express leaving Manmad tomorrow, and the LTT-Manmad Godavari Express and the CSMT-Jabalpur Garib Rath Express also leaving tomorrow will be cancelled, in addition to several other trains on the route being regulated to facilitate the construction of this bridge.
The deadline to complete these two FOBs has been extended to February 15 because of technical reasons, Union railway minister Piyush Goyal had said during his recent city visit, adding that the deadline for the two FOBs is February 15. The Army will require more blocks from both the central and western railways.
