Mumbai man caught red-handed while extorting money from builder

Azad Maidan police have arrested Malabar hill resident, Bipin Agrawal, 49, for trying to extort Rs 5 crore from a SoBo builder. The accused was caught red-handed, while he was accepting Rs 2 lakh from builder Bhavesh Sheth.


Sheth said, "On June 2, my business partner, Kalpesh, received an SMS from a person who identified himself as Bipin Agrawal. In the message, he said he had received documents with plans related to one of our constructions through an RTI. He said the­re were mistakes in our plan that could cost us and demanded R5 crore."


Sheth and his partner they called him to their office to tape the conversation with Agrawal. "He said he had documents to prove that we have supplied wrong information to the BMC about a construction at old Nagardas Ro­ad in Andheri East. He threatened to approach the Enforcement and the ACB if we didn't pay up."

Yesterday, the Azad Maidan Agrawal under section 384 (extortion) of the IPC. According to sources, Agrawal completed his MBA abroad and hails from an affluent family.
