Au00a0sum of Rs 40,000 was stolen from a policeman's bank account, making him the sixth Axis Bank customer to have registered a complaint of forgery at the Oshiwara police station on Monday.

According to Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay More, he received an SMS alert at 11.30 pm on July 27, stating that Rs 30,000 had been withdrawn from his Axis Bank account at the Federal Bank ATM in Dadar.

Barely 20 minutes later, he received another alert which said that Rs 10,000 had been withdrawn from the State Bank of India ATM in Dharavi.

Realising that his account had been compromised, he registered a complaint of forgery at the Oshiwara police station.

"We detained two salesmen at the Mega Mall in Oshiwara yesterday, where I had used my debit card and the salesmen had swiped it four times.

We suspect that they might have copied the CVV number and used it to duplicate my card and withdraw money from my account. We are interrogating the salesmen," said More.

"Five other Axis Bank debit card holders, including two women, have registered similar complaints with us on Monday.

A Shastri Nagar resident has stated in her complaint that Rs 1.5 lakh has been withdrawn from her account from various ATM kiosks across the city. We suspect that an insider may be involved," he added.

The Other Side
"It has been brought to our notice only on Tuesday that cash had been withdrawn from Sanjay More's account.

While this matter is being investigated, we would like to inform that on August 1, Axis Bank had filed an FIR with the Cyber Cell Police Station at Crawford Market about the discovery of an extraneous device attached to one of its offsite ATMs in Mumbai during a routine examination.

We are providing necessary assistance to the investigating agency in this matter," said an Axis Bank spokesperson.
