Shiv Sena legislator Neelam Gorhe on Monday was elected unanimously for deputy chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Gorhe's appointment was announced by the Council Chairman Ramraje Nimblkar.

According to reports, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the House said that Gorhe is the first woman to be appointed deputy chairperson of the state Legislative Council. 


Gorhe, a third-term MLC, earlier also filed her nomination for the post in 2015, but later withdrew it.
