The Shiv Sena will be part of the government, the party claims, after two of its leaders, Anil Desai and Subhash Desai, reportedly met union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi yesterday regarding the same. While some BJP leaders claim that the Sena leaders decided to approach the party, there were rumours of some senior leaders denying that such a meeting took place.

Rajya Sabha MP Anil Desai, considered a close aide of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, said, “The meeting was very fruitful, and by the weekend a final decision will be taken. We are hopeful that a decision mutually benefiting both parties will be taken. We are also hopeful that we will be part of the government in the state.”

Subhash Desai is said to have briefed Thackeray about the meeting. However, there have been talks that no such meeting took place, after there were rumours of senior BJP leaders denying any meeting with the Shiv Sena leaders.

The BJP, which is now close to the 144 magic figure, thanks to the help from independents and smaller parties, expects to form the government in the state without any support from the Shiv Sena.

While Thackeray had announced earlier that his party is willing to support the BJP, and provide unconditional support, BJP sources say they won’t be giving the Sena anything much of importance in the government despite this offer.

Nalin Kohli, the BJP’s national spokesperson, said, “If the Sena leaders have said that they had a meeting with BJP leaders, then there is no way they are lying. I cannot comment on anything further.”

In two minds
The Sena is in two minds, whether to stay as opposition or be part of the government. Many in the Sena want to be part of the government, but the BJP isn’t showing much interest in them.
