With CM Fadnavis turning down yet another demand by the Sena and stating clearly that the party’s nominees would not be inducted into the government before the trust vote, the Sena has called a meeting of its MLAs on Sunday to elect its group leader in the Assembly

Shiv Sena aggression continues, BJP remains nonchalant

With the BJP delivering yet another snub to its erstwhile ally Shiv Sena in the form of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ statement that no Sena minister would be inducted into the state government until the trust vote, the regional party has called a meeting of its MLAs on Sunday to elect its legislature party leader.

While the move is being seen as an attempt to exert pressure on the minority BJP government, it is also a sign of the Sena’s helplessness after its former ally ignored its ultimatum of inducting its nominees into the government before the three-day session of the state assembly, beginning November 10.

The BJP, on the other hand, seemed unperturbed by the Sena’s veiled threats and warnings of sitting in the opposition benches, and the state cabinet held a lengthy meeting yesterday to discuss the various issues before the state.

Among the things discussed at the three-and-a-half-hour-long meeting was the draft of the Governor's address to the Assembly. As per practice, the Governor addresses the first session of the newly constituted state Assembly and his address contains the plans and programmes of the state government.

The demeanour of BJP ministers did not betray any anxiety or worry over whether the Shiv Sena would join the government. “It is for the Sena to bend or crawl as it is worried about keeping its flock of legislators together.

It is so undecided over its future course of action that it has not even been able to nominate its leader in the state assembly,” said a BJP leader. When CM Fadnavis was asked about the talks between the two former allies, he said they were on, but in Delhi, indicating that the issue was being handled by the BJP central leadership.
