When cops from Hastings Police Station near Kolkata’s plush Alipore neighbourhood raided his residence, family members argued with them for little over one hour.
Eventually, threatened with arrest, one of them told the joint police team — one from Mumbai and one from Kolkata — that Khanna was hiding at his maternal uncle’s home in Pen Road. Khanna was arrested around 3 pm on Wednesday.

Some tips about the businessman’s possible hideout came from a few neighbours, including one Sanjeev Khemka, who said he told cops about places where Khanna would normally be seen if not at home.
“Like his family members, he argued for a little over two hours, and then eventually confessed to the crime,” Kolkata Police Joint CP (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said in a telephonic interview.
Ghosh said the cops had also gone to Khanna’s office in Central Avenue in north Kolkata and interrogated a 65-year-old staffer, Ajoy Singh, who said he had seen Indrani visiting Khanna “a couple of times after divorce”.
Singh told the cops that Khanna rarely visited office and mostly operated from home. Ghosh said he was not in a position to offer comments about reports that Khanna had hired killers from the city.
Khanna blamed police
Alarmed that Sheena had gone missing, Rahul, Peter Mukerjea’s son, had approached a police station in Mumbai and wanted to lodge a complaint, only to be shooed away by the cops.

During the four-hour interrogation in Kolkata, Khanna said that the police told Rahul, “Ask your mother about your missing sister.” The murder mystery might have been solved in 2012 if the Mumbai police had registered Rahul’s complaint.
