Former media baron Peter Mukherjea, arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case, appears to be in for more jail time. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday informed the Bombay high court that it has got “fresh evidence of a confidential nature” against Mukerjea in the 2012 murder case, and it will submit a supplementary chargesheet next week. Appreciating the CBI’s efforts, Justice Ajay Gadkari of the Bombay HC has given the agency time to file the chargesheet and said that it would decide on Mukerjea’s bail application only after two weeks.

CBI judge HS Mahajan had already rejected Mukerjea’s bail application twice, following which Aabad Ponda, counsel for Mukerjea, had approached the HC.

Earlier, Ponda had argued that his client had been “fooled” by his wife, Indrani, accused of murdering her daughter, Sheena. According to Ponda, the only evidence CBI had against Mukerjea was that he had spoken to Indrani on the day the crime took place in Mumbai. He argued that the CBI only has circumstantial evidence against his client, who was in the UK at the time of the incident.

Though nobody in the CBI is ready to talk about the new evidence, the agency said it has sufficient and crucial information to file a new supplementary chargesheet against Mukerjea.
