The Sheena Bora murder case has reached yet another interesting juncture. Four of the six witnesses in the case identified the three accused, Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and the Mukerjeas’ driver Shyam Rai yesterday, after the Khar police carried out an identification parade at the Arthur Road and Byculla Women’s jails.

The Khar police had recorded the statements of all six witnesses and took them to the Byculla Women's jail where prime accused and Sheena’s mother, Indrani Mukerjea, has been held. Khanna and Rai have been held at the Arthur Road jail.

Key witnesses
The first witness is a medical shop owner in Worli who had sold pills that were used to make Sheena unconscious. He identified all the three accused. He told the cops that Shyam had bought the pills from him while Indrani and Sanjeev were seated in the car.
According to the cops, Sheena fell unconscious after consuming a drink that contained the pills. Following this, Indrani and Sanjeev proceeded to strangle her to death. The second witness is a petrol pump owner from Khopoli from whom the trio purchased petrol that was allegedly used to burn Sheena’s body.
The third witness is a bag shop owner who identified Shyam as the man who purchased the suitcase in which Sheena’s body was stuffed and kept in the garage of Peter Mukerjea’s Worli residence. The suitcase was later recovered from the same Worli home. The police were reluctant to reveal the identity of the fourth witness.

But, according to sources, it is Peter Mukerjea’s son Rahul Mukerjea, who had dropped Sheena off near Indrani’s car on the night of the murder. According to the police, this identification parade will prove key in the murder probe to prove the case against the accused.
The case has already been handed over to the CBI, which is is still in the process of procuring papers from the Khar police, and has not begun investigations yet.
