A close associate of gangster Chhota Shakeel, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, was on Thursday extradited to Mumbai from Bangkok.

"Three police officers who have flown to the Thailand capital last week returned to Mumbai with Bhullar," Deputy Police Commissioner Nisar Tamboli said. A Red Corner Notice was issued against him in December 2006, police said.

Bhullar, a sharp shooter of Shakeel gang, is wanted in several cases in the city, including those related to murder and attempt to murder.

Police inspectors Shalini Sharma, Dilip Kale and Prashant Marde left for Bangkok to get the custody of the 31-year-old Bhullar, who was hiding there for last few years.

Joint Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had said that Bhullar was nabbed by Thailand Police's Special Branch in November 2006 for open firing at Sayyed Rehman (31) of Indian origin and injuring him. The firing incident was reported in May 25, 2003 in Bangkok.

During investigation, Thai police realised Bhullar was staying in their country with a fake name, Iqbal. He had forged his passport and other documents, police said.

Bhullar is also wanted for the murder of Shiv Sena activist Ramakant Hadkar in 2000. The gangster had allegedly killed Hadkar at the Sena office in suburban Vile Parle.

Bhullar and his associate Vivek Kamble had planned to kill the Shiv Sena 'shakha pramukh' (party branch head) in Vile Parle, police said. However, when the duo went there, the branch head was not present. Subsequently, the duo shot Hadkar dead, who was sitting in the party office, police added. His associate Kamble was gunned down in a police encounter in 2000, police said.
