A fake certificates racket by two institutes in Andheri has been busted by the DN Nagar police. Seven people have been arrested for allegedly issuing fake marksheets for the SSC and HSC exams to several studentsu00a0who didn’t even appear for the examinations.

The two institutes that issued the certificates are Ambitious College of Distance Education, whose office is based at Abdulla Manzil near Andheri Sports Complex, and Dawn Institute of Distance Education, which operates from White House building on SV road. While Ambitious College has been around for the past five years, the Dawn institute is new and has been around for only six months. Both institutes have their own websites and have advertised themselves in the media.

The police are investigating how many students have received such fake certificates without appearing for examinations. Rajendra Chavan, senior inspector with DN Nagar police station, said, “The first FIR was registered on May 25 against Ambitious College and the second one on June 11 against Dawn institute. We have arrested Arif Ansari and Asif Ansari, both brothers, and their councillor Shweta Mandilkar who run Ambitious College.”

Chavan added, “Four other people, all partners, have been arrested for running Dawn institute. Their names are Anand Bangali, Manish Tha, Anjum Sayyed and Jafar Sayyed.” An investigating officer said that Ambitious College has issued SSC and HSC certificates under the name of ‘Delhi’s Council of Secondary and Higher Secondary’, which does not exist.

Similarly, Dawn institute has issued certificates under the name of ‘Sarva Siksha Parishad of Maharashtra’, which also does not exist. While Arif, Asif and Shweta claim to be graduates, Anand has cleared SSC. On the other hand, Manish and Anjum have studied till HSC, even though Anjum claims to be a graduate. All of them have been booked for cheating and forgery and have been remanded in police custody by the magistrate’s court till June 19.u00a0
