Cruel intentions: Narendra Kajal, who is a drug addict, stabbed his
employers Ashok and Parmeshwari Basak with a kitchen knife at their
Motilal Nagar residence in Goregaon West
The Goregaon police yesterday arrested 20-year-old Narendra Kumar Kishenlal Kajal for attempting to murder his employers. The victims have been identified as Ashok (34) and Parmeshwari Basak (30), Bhojpuri scriptwriters, who had recently shifted to the city from Orissa. The Basaks are residents of Motilal Nagar in Goregaon (W) and had hired Kajal, a native of Haryana, some three months ago.
During interrogation, Kajal told the police that his employers preferred to spend more money on their six dogs rather than him. According to the police, Basaks' neighbours in their statements alleged that Kajal was a drug addict and an alcoholic. Due to his addiction, the employers would always send his salary to his family in Haryana. This would irk Kajal, as he would be left with no money to buy drugs and liquor. Apart from this, they would never entertain his request of giving him extra money.
Gruesome attack
Yesterday morning, Ashok was sitting in the hall, while Parmeshwari was in the kitchen making tea, when Kajal attacked them. After returning home from a nearby temple he went straight to the kitchen, fetched a knife, and attacked Parmeshwari. In her bid to save herself from the attacker, Parmeshwari got stabbed in her stomach. Kajal then caught her and slit her throat.
When Ashok tried to rescue his wife, Kajal slashed his arm, face and throat.
After attacking Parmeshwari and Ashok, Kajal stood next to the wounded couple before the police arrived and took him in custody. It was Jodharam Solanki, Basak's landlord, who had informed the police after the neighbours reached the spot on hearing the victims' screams.
The Basaks who were initially rushed to Siddharth Hospital were shifted to Nair Hospital for surgery after their condition deteriorated.
