Free chocolates, a Formula One promotion, film shoots the Bandra Worli Sea Link is in demand. But MSRDC isn't ready to relax the rules

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd (MSRDC) has been receiving request letters from corporates seeking permission to use BWSL for brand promotions, which include distributing free magazines and chocolates.

One of the applicants is Cadbury India Ltd that has requested MSRDC to permit them to distribute free chocolates at the toll naka for brand promotion. "This proposal was made to promote our new ad campaign 'Aaj pehli tarik hai'. We decided to distribute free chocolates, greeting commuters with 'kuch meetha ho jaye'. But it's still in the planning stage," said a Cadbury spokesperson.

Even a four-month-old weekly magazine from the RPG Group called 'Open' had written to MSRDC to allow them to distribute free magazines for two days to promote their brand. "The sea link will be the right platform for us to promote our newly-launched magazine," said Melvin George, sales manager of the magazine.

After a Telugu actor wished to cross the sea link on horseback, it is now 20-year-old event management company, Wizcraft International Entertainment Private Ltd, that has approached MSRDC to allow them to promote the coming Formula One event. Wizcraft wants to ride the car on the sea link. "The deal is not yet finalised. We chose BWSL as an option as it is a pride to promote the brand on India's iconic structure," said the official.

But it seems that the MSRDC officials are in no mood to grant permission just yet.

"We had given permission to a newspaper that was giving out free copies on the sea link. But we had to face the consequences as vendors came up with a morcha, asking the MSRDC to discontinue the service. We have decided not to give permission to anybody if they are violating the rules," said T Raman, executive engineer of MSRDC.
