Eight Gurgaon policemen have been booked for killing gangster Sandeep Gadoli in a fake encounter, Supreme Court was informed yesterday. The investigating agency has replaced the attempt to murder charge against them with murder and conspiracy charges.

Sources say the police are also probing the role of Gadoli's girlfriend. On February 7, MIDC police station had registered a case against eight Gurgaon cops under Sections 327 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of IPC along with relevant sections of the Arms Act.

The case was on February 8 transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch. An SIT was formed to take over the investigation.

The SIT said the FIR lodged by MIDC police station was false and that the alleged encounter was fake. It came to a conclusion that the eight Gurgaon policemen killed Gadoli and claimed that he had been shot dead in an encounter.

The investigating agency communicated to the Attorney General that they have altered the earlier sections as 302 (murder), 193 (false evidence), 182 (false information), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 34 (common intention) along with 120-B (conspiracy) of the IPC, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act.

ACP Avdhut Chavan said, "We have booked eight policemen and we are investigating their roles. The investigation may lead to more arrests."

Kin says
Speaking to mid-day, Gadoli's brother, Kuldeep Singh, said, "I have been saying from day one that my brother was killed and the encounter was staged." The SC posted the matter filed by Singh, seeking a judicial inquiry into the killing of Gadoli for further hearing to July 13.
