Part of a larger beautification plan, the project is aimed at promoting the lake as a tourist attraction in the western suburbs
The BMC is planning to introduce a Rs 5-crore laser show project, which will be displayed on a massive wall of water created by fountains at Powai lake, to promote tourism in the western suburbs. The project has a two-pronged approachu00a0-- promoting the suburb as a tourist hub and beautification of the city. So what inspired the BMC to embark on this project?

A BMC team, which had gone to Singapore on an official trip in March, had seen a presentation on aqua wall laser projections, made by Laservision, an Australian company, at the Marina Bay Sands Resort. "It was fascinating to watch the show. Everyone liked it and we decided to implement the project in Mumbai," said a BMC official, who was part of the entourage.
However, the BMC will not be the first to use the aqua wall projection services in the country. The project is already up and running at a gurudwara in Nanded. They have spent Rs 8 crore for depicting various features of the Gurudwara on the aqua wall.
The technology is also being used at Shirdi temple, depicting the Sai Charitra (the story of Sai Baba). The estimated cost of the aqua wall projections at Shirdi is Rs 25 crore. "The Australian company is providing services at both the places. Smitten by the art of light and water at Shirdi and Nanded, the BMC is ready to take the plunge," said the official.
In Mumbai, the project will come up at Powai Lake, where water is available in abundance and musical fountains are already in place. BMC's standing committee chairperson Rahul Shewale said, "The presentation made by the Australian company was really impressive. I had seen their work during my Singapore trip. We are planning to spend Rs 5 crore on the project."
Heu00a0 added that a water screen provides a unique canvas for a variety of projected media and "there's nothing more creative than this in the world". "The water screen would be used to project information about the the BMC as well as the story of Lord Shiva," said Shewale.
Aqua projections
Motion pictures, digital video projection, laser graphics and large format slide projection may be used to produce a vast and seemingly holographic imagery. Water screens vary in size from 5mX10m to 30mX60m. Water screens may be installed in both man-made and natural environs.
Water Story
In March, Laservision used the aqua wall laser projections at the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore. The show was called Wonder Full and depicted a story of water and light.
