Cricketer Rohit Sharma, who is currently the captain of the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), seems to have splurged on a villa in Khandala. According to sources from the real estate industry, the cricketer bought a bungalow some time ago, in a residential project titled ‘Discovery’ in Khandala, owned by actor Suniel Shetty’s company.

A realtor claims the deal has been signed for Rs 5 crore and the total area of the bungalow is close to 7,500 square feet. According to another realtor, the bungalow is currently under construction. It’s a 5 BHK villa with a lawn and a swimming pool. The plot covers a total area of close to 10,000 square feet.

mid-day tried to contact Sharma and his father Gurunath multiple times but the phone calls and messages went unanswered. However, sources close to both Shetty and Sharma confirmed the deal, but refused to comment further.

Shetty has a huge project, named Discovery in Khandala, which is spread across seven acres and has more than 21 bungalows. Every villa in the project has a private terrace. The project belongs to S2 realty, which is owned by Suniel, his wife Mana and others.

A source who is aware of the deal said, “It is said that the initial demand for the villa was somewhere close to Rs 8 crore, which was brought down to Rs 5 crore post negotiations.”

A source close to Suniel Shetty claims the project has drawn a lot of Mumbai’s elite. However, he didn’t divulge any names. “The project draws a lot of the city’s elite, who want to stay in the gated community. Many of them are coming to buy villas here,” he said.

A realtor claimed that the builders are selective and do not sell the project to anyone. “The moment someone shows interest, a thorough background check is carried, only post which the villas are sold,” he said.

Last August, Rohit Sharma had reportedly bought a flat on the 29 floor of Ahuja Towers in Prabhadevi. It was reportedly bought for Rs 30 crore. According to sources, Sharma had the option of going for a flat at a higher floor, but he stuck to his current flat, which has a view of the Bandra-Worli Sealink.
