Reporter hit by traffic cop awaits police action

On Friday, Shahid Ansari, a news channel reporter with Express News used the JJ Flyover since he was late to work. After being stopped by traffic constable Shivaji Manik Kadam for violating the traffic laws, Ansari was ready to pay the fine but was taken to the police station.

At the police station the constable took away Ansari's mobile, license and his media identity card and began hitting him. His injuries required him to be taken to St George Hospital. "I want the police to take the action as I was assaulted inside the police station by a traffic constable. There is proof, why don't they check the CCTV installed inside the police station," said Ansari.

"We have taken down his complaint and will take necessary action against the traffic constable once he is discharged from the hospital tomorrow," said senior police inspector Padmakar Juikar of MRA Marg police station near Azad Maidan.
