Ravi Pujari, the gangster extradited from Senegal, had been living in Burkina Faso for 12 years and used to present himself as a businessman. The police said Pujari bought a garment factory in Burkina Faso and had invested in four to five hotels, as well as in electronic goods showrooms.

In Burkina Faso, he got information that Indian agencies were looking for him and so Pujari shifted to Senegal. In 2016, he went to Senegal and started an Indian restaurant named Maharaja.

The police said Pujari also made crores of rupees from Bollywood, builders, businessmen through extortion. A police officer said, "Pujari was aware that there are many cases against him in India and if he comes back, he will fall into the clutches of the law. That is why he did not create any direct property in India."

According to the Bangalore police, it is difficult to say how much money Pujari made through extortion, but it is certain that he invested that money in his businesses.

Pujari has 97 cases lodged against him in Karnataka. Pujari was brought to India on Sunday. He was produced before a Bangalore court on Monday, which sent him to police custody.
