A police constable and a lawyer have been arrested by the district Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding bribe from a man in lieu of not taking legal action against him in a theft case.

A case of theft against the complainant was pending with the Manickpur police station in Vasai taluka of Palghar district, for which he was served a notice by the police, Inspector Chandramohan Dube of Thane ACB said in an release
on Sunday.
However, the complainant approached police constable Ramnath Khedkar (35), attached with the Manickpur police station, and requested him to not take legal action against him, the release said.
It alleged Khedkar, who demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 to do the favour, asked the complainant to pay Rs 10,000 to a lawyer Sadashiv Harkar, to which he complied. The complainant was reminded to furnish the remaining amount, following which he filed a complaint with ACB, the release said.
The sleuths of the ACB on Friday laid a trap and nabbed the two accused while allegedly accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant, it said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, the release said, adding further investigation is on.
