Palghar: Shiv Sena MLA from Palghar Krushna Ghoda died following a massive heart attack in the wee hours today, family sources said.

Ghoda, 61, was returning home after attending a marriage function at a village in Palghar district at around 2 AM when he suffered a heart attack near Charoti check post and died enroute to hospital, party sources said.

He was rushed to Haria Hospital at Vapi where the doctors declared him brought dead, they said.

A couple of days back he was elected vice chairman of Thane District Central Co-operative Bank.

Ghoda had twice been elected from the Dahanu Assembly constituency in Palghar on Congress ticket. He had once also won the MLA election from the seat on NCP ticket.

After his defeat in the 2009 Assembly elections, he switched over from Congress to Shiv Sena. During the last year's Maharashtra Assembly elections, Ghoda contested from the Palghar seat where he won by a small margin of 515 votes against then minister and sitting MLA Rajendra Gavit.

He was three-time president of Dahanu Panchayat Samiti and also associated with various social and educational institutions.

Ghoda's funeral will be held later today at his native Ranshet village in the district, sources added.
