Open air gym in slug fest: Sena unleashes poster blitzkrieg to blast Nitesh Rane

The Shiv Sena has not taken Congress MLA Nitesh Rane’s threat to uproot the Marine Drive open-air gym in C ward well. The party has plastered south Mumbai with posters, warning of a fitting reply.

On Friday, Nitesh Rane had declared that he would uproot the gym, and by Saturday the Sena’s posters were ready, proclaiming, “Yaad Rakha, Shiv Senecha Vatela Jal Tar, Himmat Asel Tar, Open Gym la Haath Lavun Dakhva, Angawar Aalat Tar Singhvar Gheu.” (Keep in mind, do not cross the Shiv Sena’s path… if someone touches the open gym, he won’t be spared).

Gym jam continuesThe issue has snowballed into the mother of all political slugfests. First, the gym was removed a day after it was inaugurated by Aaditya Thackeray, and later re-installed. Subsequently, Rane came out with his response. He had visited the BMC commissioner on Friday evening, asking him if the gym installed in C-Ward had necessary permissions. “The commissioner had told me, that BMC hasn’t given any permission,” said Rane.

He added that if BMC didn’t act, he is “efficient and capable enough of uprooting it.”

The Sena’s posters carry the name of Pandurang Sakpal, the party’s Vibhag Pramukh of South Mumbai. Sakpal told mid-day, “Nitesh Rane challenged us, and we do not take any challenge lightly. The open gym has all legal permissions, and if he has an issue then he should deal with it legally.”

Sakpal insisted that the BMC has given the open gym all the required permissions, and the structure wasn’t illegal.
