Possibly days away from inauguration, metro stations and trains continue to sport the 'Reliance Metro' logo. MMOPL officials say MMRDA is yet to give them the new 'Mumbai Metro' logos
On the verge of being opened to the public, the Mumbai Metro has run into an unforeseen mega block over the logo to be displayed on the trains and at the stations.

While the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials want the logo ‘Mumbai Metro logo’, Reliance Infrastructure authorities, which holds 76 per cent stake in the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), say they are still awaiting this new logo design. Earlier, a ‘Reliance Metro’ logo was stuck on the trains and the stations. These old logos have not been removed yet. The first phase of the metro rail is slated to opened anytome before the elections.
Sunday mid-day visited several stations and found the Reliance Metro logo at many stations such as Versova and DN Nagar.
In February, Metropolitan Commissioner UPS Madan had said that the issue had been resolved. Speaking to SMD then, Madan had said, “The logo issue has been solved and VAG metro will be known as Mumbai Metro. The new logos will be installed soon.”
The metro rail is awaiting a final go ahead on safety parameters before it is ready to launch.
“On Friday, MMRDA and MMOPL authorities jointly submitted a report to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). We expect to get the safety certification from CMRS soon,” an MMRDA official requesting anonymity, said. However, the logo issue threatens to play spoilsport.
Tug of war
When contacted, MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawatkar, said, “The issue has been resolved and before the opening of the VAG line, the necessary changes in the logo will be made.” However, clearly exposing the gap in communication, an MMOPL spokesperson said, “The logo issue is under discussion with the MMRDA.”
