Software will be synced with 500 CCTV cameras in CIDCO areas, which will intimate the control room upon spotting a history-sheeter in the monitored areas; cops say it will increase crime detection rate
Now, identifying and nabbing wanted criminals could become easier for the Navi Mumbai police. It has been learnt that police department has outsourced the work of developing a software, using which officials would be able to detect the presence of history-sheeters even in crowded areas, increasing the crime detection rate.

Sources in the police department revealed that the software would be synchronised with 500 CCTV cameras, installed in areas falling under the CIDCO’s jurisdiction. The decision of developing the software was taken by the high-ranking police officials to curb the rising incidents of chain-snatchings, robberies and thefts across the city.
Speaking to mid-day, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wireless department) P P Kannalu said, “We have maintained a soft copy of over 5,000 criminals, which will be synced with the software.
After a CCTV camera identifies a wanted criminal, the software will immediately alert the control room, which will then intimate the police station in the area where the criminal was spotted. With the help of the new software, we’ll be able to nab the criminals in less time.”

In addition, Navi Mumbai is first region to issue e-challans to those violating traffic rules. Offenders are penalised with the help of over 262 high-definition cameras installed across major locations in the city.
As soon as motorists flout norms, a notification is sent to their registered residential address. Thereafter, offenders can pay the fine by visiting respective traffic offices in their areas or online payment on the traffic department’s website.
