Mumbaikars come forward to help flood-affected in J&K

As people of Jammu and Kashmir face one of the worst floods in history, many Mumbaikars have decided to come forward by donating basic necessities that will help them in this time of calamity. In the last five days, residents of the city have contributed to NGOs like Goonj that are sending relief material to Srinagar.

In order to provide aid to the 2,26,000 people rescued from the flood that hit the state two weeks ago, many families in Mumbai have collected and donated supplies like medicines, clothes, sanitary napkins, blankets and pillows, raincoats, phenyl, foodgrain and even chocolates.

“Till now, we have sent relief material five times through Indigo, SpiceJet and Air India. The relief material is sorted, packed and labelled before we send it off. As roads to the state have opened, we have sent one truck to Jammu via Delhi, and are hoping to send another truck to Srinagar soon,” informed Meenakshi Gupta, founder member of Goonj.
