The Mumbai Airport Taxi Rickshaw Union and Mumbai Taximen Sangathan will be participating in the protest that will be led by Shiv Sena MLC Anil Parab. According to Kanhaiya Singh of the Mumbai Airport Taxi Rickshaw Union, GVK has constantly been reducing parking space for the taximen. "They say we have to give up our current parking spot for the Metro III line," Singh said.

According to airport officials, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) had conducted a survey for the upcoming Metro Line III in which it was decided that a slum pocket and a few other areas would have to be vacated.

No clarification
Speaking to mid-day Parab said, "They have declared that people need to vacate the place, but there is no clarification on what and how things need to be done. Taxi unions have joined our protest."

"They say the chief minister has asked that the area be vacated anyhow, and they will have to use force if required. How can we keep shifting every time? They have now told us they will give us space for parking 100 taxis near gate 9 of the airport. How can 500 of us be accommodated in such a small place? The airport operator has always been harassing us," said a cabbie.
