Mumbai: Professor assaulted for stopping outsiders, former students from entering college premises

Stopping outsiders and former students from entering the premises of a college, has cost a professor dear. The 35-year-old faculty of Vartak College Pranay Gharat in Vasai was assaulted by three people, one of who was an ex-student of the same college on Saturday.

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 3 pm when three people on a bike waylaid him while he was going to have lunch on Shastri Nagar Road on his bike. When Gharat objected, they got angry and beat him up. Thereafter, they escaped from the spot. Gharat then approached the Manikpur police station and registered a complaint.

Of the three people who assaulted him, he identified one as an ex-student of the college. He used to regularly visit the college along with his friends. Gharat had opposed to it once while they were roaming in the premises.

“We have registered a case against the three accused under relevant sections of the IPC. One of the accused has been identified as Samir Khan. We are looking for the other two,” said inspector Anil Patil of Manikpur police station.
