In a dramatic chase that lasted for about 15 minutes, the Mumbai Police nabbed a 53-year-old man in possession of an Italian made .85 CAL 8MM semi automatic gun and 15 live cartridges after the accused escaped a trap set for him close to Chembur Railway Station and wasfinally caught near the skywalk bridge located close to the station.

The Tilak Nagar police had received information regarding the accused -- Navinchandra Kadappa Kundar -- was coming to Chembur railway station on Saturday afternoon and a trap was laid to nab him.
A team of about eight officials laid a trap around P.L.Lokande Marg, which is near Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar High School close by to Chembur Railway station. The trap included Police Inspector Babar, Assistant Police Inspector Pawar, Police Sub Inspector Chirme and officials from the detection staff of Tilak Nagar police. Navinchandra was spotted soon after, but when officials tried to apprehend him he resisted and attempted to flee.
However, the officials chased him. The accused, being a local, though, knew the lanes nearby Chembur station and tried to use that information to make good his escape. However, the police kept behind him and after 15 minutes or so the cops finally overpowered him. The chase finally ended nearby the end of skywalk of Chembur near the highway. On searching him, they found he was carrying a foreign-made pistol and had 15 live cartridges, the police said.
Senior police inspector, Vijay Khaire of the Tilak Nagar police said, "I had received information and it was passed on to the officers. The team was immediately formed and deputed at the location. He has been arrested under sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms and section 135 of the Maharashtra police Act. He has been granted police custody till July 5, we are investigating his background and the reason for possession of the weapon and live bullets."
