The decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found behind Afghan Church near Asvini INS Hospital, Cuffe Parade, last evening. What’s left the police perplexed is that tattered pieces of a photograph of the woman were stuck to her forehead.
The body was found by a naval team around 5.30 pm, wrapped in a bed sheet, amidst rocks around 2 km off the shore behind the church, said sources from the Cuffe Parade police.
After a panchnama, the body was sent to GT Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The report is still awaited.
A police official said the woman, clad in a salwar kameez, was probably aged 25 to 30. “We found pieces of a photo stuck to her forehead.” It was only after they joined the pieces did the police realise that it was a picture of the woman herself.
The police official said the woman’s big toes were tied together and there were a few bruises on the neck. “We can’t pin the cause of death till we get the post-mortem examination report.”
He said the police are scouring missing persons complaints registered at police stations across Mumbai, and are making enquiries in the vicinity where the body was found. The police said they will be filing a case of murder.
