In first of it’s kind the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs caught a senior citizen on October 16 night at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport trying to clear gold worth Rs 67.72 lakh illegally.

On the basis of intelligence and profiling, the AIU intercepted three passengers travelling together and smuggling gold. Nurjahan Shekhmahamad Tanki Indian Passpoert number K 4809875), Khushnavid Mohamed Ismail Tanki (Indian passport number J 9132594) and Sadat Imam Mohamed Tanki (Indian passport number Z 3140169) were caught after they arrived from Dubai via Muscat by Oman Air flight number WY 201 which lands Mumbai at around 5.30am.
22 gold bars of 10 tola each and three cut pieces of tola bars were recovered from these passengers. These gold bars totally weighed 2.816 kilogram valued at Rs.67.72 lakhs from the lady passenger aged 83 years. The gold was kept in small zipper hand pouch and concealed in specially made zipper pocket in her salwar.
The senior citizen covered the other two passengers as she led them and tried to leave the airport premises earlier. “The male passengers were shielded by her to pass the gold from green channel which is when they were intercepted,” said a Mumbai Customs Officer.
