The Powai police have arrested a 48-year-old motor mechanic identified as Nasir Khan, who is accused of stealing a slew of bikes and cars in a bid to make money by selling spares extracted from them.

Assistant police inspector from Powai police station, Sameer Mujawar, said, “We had a number of car and bike theft cases registered over the last few months. When we began investigating them, the clues led us to Khan. This week, we received a confirmed tip off in the case and were able to nab him from his Vikroli home.”


During the investigation, Khan confessed to being involved in the thefts over the last one year.

“Khan said his son is physically challenged and he sold stolen cars and spares in order to finance his treatment. The stolen vehicles were parked near his residence where he would extracting spares,” the police said.

Since his arrest, the Powai police have retrieved 32 stolen bikes and four missing cars. Khan has been booked under Section 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded to police custody.
