Mumbai crime: Kidnapper breaks into house, takes girl, abandons her at a station

A three-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from her Dindoshi residence and later abandoned at the Goregaon railway station on Thursday. The police said her mother told them she had locked her in the house with her younger daughter and gone out, when someone broke open the lock and took her. Her sister was left alone.

Kidnapping

According to the police officials, it is the first of its kind crime when someone broke open a lock to kidnap a kid, otherwise people break locks for theft. Seeing the modus operandi in the crime, officials are also suspecting that a friend or close relative of the girl is involved. The incident occurred at about 11.30 am when the mother of the girl had gone to pick up her son from school. The girl and her 11-month-old sister were alone. The family stays near Gokuldham, Goregaon East. The woman’s husband works as an electrician at Churchgate, and she works as a maid in nearby houses.

Police, who are wondering why the younger girl was left behind, came to know about the crime when the mother informed Dindoshi police. Immediately officials launched an investigation and circulated the picture of the girl to all police stations.

However, the same evening police got an input that the girl was found on a railway platform of Goregaon station. They then picked her up. A medical test was done and the girl was found to be fine.

According to police sources, the path to the girl’s house where she was kidnapped is very tiny. She stays on the upper storey of the house, which has a narrow ladder to go up, and no outsider can enter the place easily, so they are suspecting an insider job. The girl’s mother is also changing her statements frequently, so officials doubt her too.

Senior Inspector Avinash Sawant of the Dindoshi police station said, “We suspect someone who knows them, such as a relative has done this. We are close to tracing the people and will soon solve the case.” Police are investigating the case further and say that after the kidnapper is nabbed the role of her mother will be clear. They are checking the CCTV footage of Goregaon Railway station for clues.
