The Marine Drive police will send a team to Rajasthan to search for the persons who sent a threat-and-extortion letter to former Member of Parliament Milind Deora demanding Rs 25 crore at their house in Rajasthan.

The letter mentions the name of one Ripudaman Singh, who is allegedly a resident of Sahil Gunj, Bikaner, Rajasthan. “We will send a team to check if there is any person in Rajasthan with this name, and if he has any role to play in sending the letter,” said Krushna Prakash, additional commissioner of police, south region.

The letter was sent to the former minister’s office at Khetan Bhuvan in Churchgate, demanding Rs 25 crore or “face the consequences”. This paper had reported about the threat in its cover story (‘25 crore do varna mehenga padega’) yesterday. The person who demanded the money has mentioned his name as Ripudaman Singh, and he wanted the money at his house address.

“Nobody who demands money through a threat will give his name or address on the letter. We think it’s a mischief, but will still visit Rajasthan and only then reach any conclusion,” said an officer from Marine Drive police station.

After receiving the letter on Friday, the Marine Drive police has not done much in the matter, saying they were busy with IPL bandboast and Gopinath Munde’s funeral arrangements. But after mid-day reported about the incident, they decided to investigate the letter.

When this reporter questioned the cops about the letter, they realised they had misplaced it and started looking for it. Deora’s personal assistant L K Sajeev had sent it to the police station along with a cover letter explaining the incident.

But the cops seemed to have forgotten about it after misplacing it. “We started searching for it on Wednesday evening, and finally found it on Thursday afternoon,” said an officer from Marine Drive police station.
