All of 10, a boy from Vakola has been booked for setting a brand new car on fire.
After he set the cover of the car ablaze — an act that damaged the rear end of the vehicle — the child supposedly walked away and played with his friends near the burning vehicle.
He then ties a polythene bag on the car cover and lights it with a match
The owner of the car, Valerian Dsouza has registered a complaint with the Vakola police which is investigating if it was a mere child's play or had the child been asked to do it by someone else.
The CCTV footage shows a child aged around 10 tiptoe towards the car and then tug a polythene bag into its cover. He then takes out a match and alights it.

After setting it ablaze, he flees from the spot
The car cover gradually catches fire and the child runs away from the spot. He is later seen playing with other children in the vicinity.
Doused just in time
D'souza, a caterer, told mid-day, "I had purchased the car in the first week of October. I park it near my house and cover it when I'm not using it. The CCTV captured a child coming and then setting the car cover on fire, which later spread and damaged the entire rear end of the car. A worker near my house alerted me and I doused the fire before the petrol tank could catch fire. Had that happened, the car would have exploded. I have shifted the car to a garage and it is being repaired. I don't exactly know why the child did it. The police are investigating the matter."

A police official from the Vakola police station said, "A complaint has been registered with the police. Since the case involves a juvenile, we have not arrested him but are trying to find out the reason [why he set the car cover on fire] by questioning the police informers in the area."
