Former hockey player's wife, who is believed to have stabbed him to death has reportedly told her neighbours that her husband stabbed himself to death after failing to kill her. The deceased Apaiyya Chenanda's wife Amita is currently undergoing treatment at Shatabdi Hospital.
52-year-old Apaiyya Chenanda was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife Amita (45) during an argument, which got out of hand. Neighbours say both would argue over petty issues, as Amita was short tempered.
According to Free Press Journal, Amita called the society's office, following the incident and claimed her husband tried to stab her. She also stated that he stabbed himself to death after being unable to murder her.

Police are currently yet to establish a motive behind the murder. Amita was booked for murder based on the complaint of Ganpati, who is the deceased's son from his first wife.
On Saturday, when Apaiyya's children were out, his wife and he were enjoying a few drinks in the afternoon. The two soon started arguing over an issue, which took an ugly turn when Amita brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him seven times. She then injured herself, the police said.

The neighbours were alerted to the incident after Apaiyya started screaming for help. They informed the police control room and rushed the injured couple to the hospital. Apaiyya was declared dead by doctors, while Amita is undergoing treatment.
Amita is Apaiyya's second wife and an officer from Malad police station said Amita would be arrested once doctors declared her medically fit.
