Suburban services on the north-bound direction were disrupted after a fire broke out in a suburban local train on Friday night at Dadar station on platform one. Eyewitness accounts of passengers travelling in the train said that the Thane-bound local had left the station when smoke was noticed and the locomotive was brought to an abrupt halt. There was smoke emanating from inside the compartment and fire was also seen at the site with the footover bridge above getting engulfed in flames.

The incident occurred in a Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited BHEL-class train that has been prone to fires at earlier instances too.
Railway officials said there were no injuries to passengers and that they were trying to douse the fire. Three trains were locked behind this train and others were diverted on the fast track. There were crowds at Dadar and other stations as services got delayed due to the incident.
