After his best efforts to convince her failed, the 21-year-old youth strangulated her to death using his shoelace and dumped her body on the staircase.
The Palghar police arrested accused Haridas Yergode within an hour of the incident. According to sources, Anita Jadhav (name changed) and Yergode became friends on Facebook last year. After accepting the accused's friend request, she started chatting with him on a regular basis.

Then the accused requested her to sleep with him, but she refused."
He further said, "The accused tried to convince her, but when she didn't agree, he strangulated her to death in a fit of rage." When some of the residents found her body on the staircase, they immediately informed the police about it, after which Yergode was arrested.
