Feast for vintage car fans
Vintage car lovers are in for a treat today. Cultural centre Osianama is hosting its vintage and classic automobile club event, Automotive Royalty & Patrimony: The Rolls-Royce and Peers.

The event includes display of beautiful old cars from Rolls-Royces to Mercedes-Benz, including the 1948 Invicta Black Prince (in picture), owned by collector Kooverji Gamadia. The only one of its kind in India, this car was ordered new by the Maharaja of Mysore.
Technically advanced and one of the most expensive cars of its time, the Black Prince was the last model from famed automaker Invicta. Enthusiasts can also take part in master classes, lectures and seminars by eminent speakers including Patrick Rollet, president, Federation Internationales des Vehicules Anciens, and Rolls-Royce historian Andre Blaize.

India-US, is the right picture
As March comes rushing at us, in a headlong frenzy of days and dates, the US Consulate General in Mumbai is marking International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, which takes place every March ion the US, through a photography contest.
The theme of this year’s contest is, “Make It Happen,” In a nutshell, we hear that participants are encouraged to take a photo that highlights Indian women’s achievements and recognizes the important role they play. The contest is open till March 15, 2015, to Indian nationals residing in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa.

Looks like the Traffic Police have their task cut out for them. For all the awareness campaigns, crackdowns, etc, it is ultimately up to the road user, to practice safety.

But what (and how much) can the police do when users like this person in the photograph, endanger themselves as well as their loved ones, not to mention other drivers and pedestrians? Even three on a bike is not safe.
Here we have six people including the rider, perched on an overloaded bike, negotiating the crowded roads of the city. We spotted this reckless rider at Byculla, near Gloria Church. And there are many similar cases elsewhere in the city as well.
Getting leggy with it
In case you haven’t been able to share in the flamingo frenzy this season, there’s still time. The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is holding its Flamingo Festival in association with the Mumbai Port Trust, on February 28 from 1pm till sunset at the Sewri Jetty.
You can watch flamingoes nearly 15,000 of them are known to turn up as well as other resident and migratory water birds including ibises, sandpipers and kingfishers. Also on, from February 23 to 27, is the Flamathon an awareness drive before the festival, on the BNHS Facebook page with a daily activity such as photos, cartoons, paintings and phrases.
