The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary page: Saturday scene

Dirt amidst the devotion
It is well known that places of worship and religious sites tend to attract a lot of garbage and debris in their surroundings, discarded by unthinking devotees.

What of that, even when the visarjan of flowers and other pooja material is done, people just chuck the whole thing into the nearest water body, complete with plastic carrier bag. The contents are biodegradable but the bag is not!

We saw another example of this callous behaviour at Titwala recently, when people who were queueing up for darshan of Lord Ganesh took plastic glasses of water and discarded the empty glasses right there, in the centre of the space. It must have been an ugly sight even to their own eyes, but it is unfortunate that almost no one sees it that way.

Have a woofing good time
When the family goes out to a resort, the pets generally get left behind. Which is a pity, because they are part of the family and enjoy spending time with their humans.

That’s why it’s nice that the Lonavala resort Della Adventure encourages people to bring their pets along. This will be particularly applicable to dogs, who love going out and will appreciate the access to the open space.

Della Adventure has a Dog Walk facility, and its managing director, Jimmy Mistry, says, “Pets are a part of our family. We celebrate their birthdays, enjoy with them and even treat them like our children.

Then why not spend your vacation with them? Ours is an animal-friendly adventure park and you can see the horses, cows, dogs and so many of the domestic animals here.” Three cheers or rather, three barks for that.
