The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary: Wednesday Dossier

Pet project
Since it’s festive season, there’s a little party planned for your pets too. The Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) is organising Woofs and Hoofs Carnival 2016 on January 10 at the Royal Western India Turf Club’s second enclosure at Mahalaxmi.

In its second edition, the event aims to focus on increasing awareness on the way in which animals should be treated. The party will include entertainment by Banoo’s Fit Kids, performances by the SOI youth orchestra and an all girls Pop-band, Conspiracy Theory.

You can shop for yourself and your furry four- legged friends from brands like Asya, Shake Hands and The Spoilt Brat Bakery. The event will also have an adoption drive but pets can only be taken home once house checks are done the week following the carnival.

Fitness calling with Milind and Dia
Milind Soman and Dia Mirza will be a part of the fitness week at the ongoing Festa De Diu, touted as Asia’s longest beach festival by its organisers.

Scheduled to kick off on January 1, the week hopes to share with revellers fitness mantras and loads of other healthy routines, using both the celebrities as star value.

We’re curious to see and whether movers and shakers at the festival will actually take fitness seriously, post all the heady beachfront parties, and after parties.

Remembering Suchitra
There’s good news for fans of yesteryear cine legend, Suchitra Sen. A new book about the screen icon has arrived on bookshelves.

Written by award-winning film critic, journalist and author, Shoma A Chatterji, the title looks at the life of the actress who mesmerised audiences for years, before withdrawing from public gaze and refusing to emerge in the limelight during the last decade of her life.

The author tries to unveil the two different dimensions of the Suchitra Sen persona: Sen as a working woman in films and her willful social seclusion. This one promises to be a page-turner.

Elli turns Santa
Well, Santa is going to be happy with actress Elli Avram. The do-gooder spread festive cheer by celebrating Christmas with kids from the Smile Foundation at Churchgate’s popular hangout, Gaylord’s Bake Shop.

Picking from an array of confections and bakes, she indulged in sweet treats, while drawing attention to the need of educating the girl child.

From Shillong to Bandra
Mumbai, and Bandraites in particular, will get a chance to listen to the famous Shillong Chamber Choir who will perform at St Peter’s Grounds, Hill Road, today, 6 pm onwards.

The globally acclaimed choir is bound to regale the audience with their lilting tunes and renditions of Christmas carols and other Yuletide favourites. Don’t miss this one.

Mumbai needs a smart bus
Here is an idea that could become a much-needed addition to the transport system in our city. Skipping the expensive app-based taxi services, one can now use an app-based bus service in Kolkata.

HopprApp.in is a mobile app that helps you catch buses; it informs you about the buses under, HopprApp.in, nearby, or after how long the next bus would arrive and then you can book a seat before it arrives.

Founder Harshit Gohil informed that currently they are plying in only two routes in Kolkata and plan to expand there and enter other cities in future.
