It's raining Marathi literature
After the hugely popular digital katta online Diwali Ank in 2014, Sayali Rajadhyaksha’s new online Marathi magazine, is a Varsha (Rain Special).

The current issue, digitalkatta.com, has articles by noted author Vijaya Rajadhyaksha, well-known classical singer Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, as well as writers and personalities like Nandini Atmasiddha, Nayan Khanolkar and Pariniti Dandekar.

The issue includes poems by Gulzar, Arun Shewate and Sanjay Joshi. The highlight of the Varsha Visheshank is poetry readings by Vijaya Rajadhyaksha and actress Chinmayee Sumeet.

Rajadhyaksha, who has been an editor with Doordarshan, dons many hats, and is known for her translations into Marathi, of Black Friday S Hussain Zaidi, Tales of two cities Kuldip Nayar and Asif Noorani, and Beyond the lines Kuldip Nayar.

She is also an avid food blogger. The earlier two magazines, she says, were viewed by Marathi readers in 56 countries. And, judging by the interest and contributors, this number could rise. No wonder Rajadhyaksha is busy with her next project, another online Diwali Ank.

Make notes with Pearl Jam?
Funky prints, quirky graphics and a sense of dry wit. This diarist loved the combination and colour-play while browsing through With My Muse, a collection of notebooks by artist Kadambari Kira Issar, on Postbox an online space that promotes artists inspired by pop culture and curious, off-beat art.

Play it again, for Kishore-da
Despite their current nagging health problems, singer-sons Amit Kumar and Sumeet, and actress-lyricist wife Leena Chandavarkar will jointly pitch in this evening to celebrate legendary singer-actor-funster Kishore Kumar’s birth anniversary that falls today.

On this occasion, KK’s grand-daughter Muktika’s tribute album-video, ‘Baba Mere’ will be released by Union Minister and singer Babul Supriyo at an event in the city.

Supriyo recalls, “Every singer looks up to Kishore-da as the genius Guru-dev, since he had that hero-like royal voice-quality. Although I never met him, I share the ‘Eklavya-Dronacharya’ equation with him. Tonight, I will offer my humble tributes when I sing ‘Kuch Toh Log Kahenge’.”

Of dreams, and a happy birthday
It’s US President Barack Obama’s birthday today, and so we decided to hit the rewind button. Here’s a pick from our archive when he wowed students during a town hall meeting at St Xavier’s College, Dhobi Talao while on his visit to Mumbai in November 2010.
