Mumbai Diary: Thursday theme

30 seconds please!
It’s a cat-and-mouse game that journalists and PR junta play out every single day of their professional lives.

Of late, one tactic that we’ve noticed, is how PR personnel have introduced a line at the start of their chat, specifying the time they would be taking for the phonecall, just in case one isn’t interested.

Sample this: “Hello XYZ, I will need exactly two minutes of your time....” And if you are terribly rushed or seem distracted, the duration would get shortened. Like this one: “My only request would take just 30 seconds.” Talk about precision! What’s next?

Mouse with a message
The Ganesh festival has become tremendously creative, with mandals doing their best to garner attention. Now, well-known ventriloquist, Mumbai’s Satyajit Padhye is visiting different pandals with a mouse puppet, to spread social messages. Padhye‘throws’ his voice so that it looks like the mouse is speaking.

Padhye says, “I had designed this mouse puppet a few days ago, for the Ganpati festival. I call him, ‘Undirmama Kurtadkar’. I am performing with ‘undirmama’ across different Ganpati pandals in Mumbai and Thane. Undirmama Kurtadkar interacts with people and quizzes kids on Ganapati trivia.

I have incorporated several social messages in the script, such as eco-friendly idols, maintaining law and order during the festive season and lowering noise pollution.” Carry on, Undirmama Kurtadkar, is all we can say.

Bass Rani’s cool debut
In a first-of-its-kind album launch, musician Udayan Sagar, popularly known as Nucleya, will release his album as part of a Ganpati visarjan procession on September 27.

Titled Bass Rani, the album will have Bass-heavy tracks, one of them including popular Punjabi Folk song, Laung Gawacha with a twist. The procession will start at Edward Cinema in Kalbadevi and end at Girgaum Chowpatty. This is one party everybody would want to be at and can be at!

Raghu Rai’s best
We’re thrilled to hear this bit of news. Aleph Book Company has just announced a photographic celebration of 50 years of the iconic photographer Raghu Rai’s career.

Set for a November 2015 release, the book, titled, Picturing Time: The Greatest Photographs of Raghu Rai, promises to be a must-pick for photography buffs.

The text on the jacket reads: 50 years of Exceptional Images and The Stories Behind Them. We’re surely waiting to savour this visual feast.
