In a shocking incident, a 23-year old man was thrashed by the public for attempting to videotape a woman using a public toilet in Santacruz (East). He was then handed over to the local police in Vakola

The man is reported to have suffered minor injuries and has been identified as Indrajeet Lakhan, a resident of Vakola's Dhobi Ghat area. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old victim, stays with her family, and is also a resident of a nearby district.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the victim is said to have stated that she had visited the public toilet at 11 am. It was while she was inside the cubicle that she heard a sound and saw a person's hand holding a mobile, upon which she shouted for help. Lakhan was then chased by the public who gathered upon hearing the victim's cries.

The accused allegedly used the last toilet for men which shares a common wall with the woman's washroom. He then pushed through his mobile phone, with the video camera switched on, through a slight gap in the wall.

The HT report, quoted a police official from Vakola police station as having commented on the case and stated, "He was produced before a court and granted bail. If convicted, the accused can be imprisoned for three years or more.' Lakhan has been booked under section 354 C (voyeurism) of IPC and 66 E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act.
