Cops are on the lookout for two women and a man who robbed a businessman on Sunday night. The women, who are sex workers, and the man, a pimp, also assaulted the Chandigarh-based cloth merchant, who got scared and gave them whatever he had.

The 46-year-old businessman, Rajmani Dubey visits Mangaldas Market in Kalbadevi often for business. This time around, he went there last Saturday, and the next day, as he was returning to his hotel in Dadar (east) at around 9 pm after shopping, one of the accused women caught hold of him at the station.

He refused to pay any attention to her, went ahead and had dinner at Shubham Hotel. When, after dinner, he was waiting at a paan shop, the lady approached him again, assuring him of her services. This time, he was convinced, and they hailed a taxi at around 11 pm to go near Matunga station via Senapati Bapat Marg, Dadar (West). When the taxi stopped, Dubey took out his wallet to pay and that was when the woman saw the bundle of notes in it.

She quickly hatched a plan and said that they need to wait for her sister so that they can return together. Around 11:30 pm, a lady arrived with a man, who took Dubey behind one of the buses that was parked there. The assault began and the man asked Dubey to hand over whatever he had, which he refused to do.

The assault stepped up and the women blackmailed Dubey of charging him with molestation cases, if he didn’t budge.

Fearing for his life and dignity, he gave away R15,000 and his mobile phone and then fled from the spot. While returning to his hotel, he spotted a policeman and mustered the courage to narrate the whole incident to him. A complaint was lodged at the Shivaji Park Police station.

“We have formed teams to hunt the trio. We have got an input that this is a racket where a group of commercial sex workers approach customers at railway stations and rob them by threatening them with police action,” said an officer from Shivaji Park police station, adding that they are scrutinising the CCTV footage of the incident to nail the accused.
