A 29-year-old woman was raped by a Dindoshi-based moneylender, who gave her a soft drink laced with an intoxicant. The survivor had approached the moneylender through a friend as she needed Rs 50,000 to conduct urgent repairs in her house. While the accused is at large, the Kurar police have detained the survivor’s friend.

Police said the survivor, who works as a housekeeping staffer at an office, needed R50,000 urgently and she asked her best friend, Raju, if he knew anyone who could lend her the amount. Raju asked her to ask his friend Vishal, a moneylender, for the money.

The survivor called up Vishal and he asked her to come to his house in Dindoshi, Goregaon (East) around 1 pm on Saturday, November 8. When the woman went to Vishal’s house, he offered her a soft drink and she fell unconscious after drinking it.
A senior official from Kurar police station said, “Vishal allegedly raped the victim at his residence and fled. When the woman came to her senses in the evening, she realised that Vishal had raped her, she came to our police station and registered a complaint.”
Medical test
The Kurar police sent the girl for a medical check-up, which confirmed sexual assault. They traced and detained Raju yesterday on suspicion of involvement in the crime.
Senior Inspector Jaychandra Kathe of Kurar police station said, “We have registered a case under Section 376 (Rape) of the IPC and other relevant laws. The accused is still at large and we will arrest him as soon as possible.”
