The DB Marg police have arrested a 27-year-old for extorting money from his girlfriend on the pretext of leaking her semi-nude pictures. According to the police the accused, Rohit Tiwari, works with a private company and was arrested on Tuesday from his Khetwadi residence.

An officer from DB Marg police station said, “The accused and the victim had been friends since 2009 when they met at a coaching class and began dating. Later, on the pretext of missing her, the accused asked for her semi-naked pictures.”

Since last year, Tiwari had begun demanding money from the woman claiming that his parents were unwell. Police say though he was married, Tiwari promised to marry the victim, a 23-year-old, and kept raping her. He would keep asking for amounts like Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000 etc from the girl who did not know he was a married man.

“After Tiwari took money from her, he would stop contacting her. Recently she started to gather information about him and learnt that he was married,” added the officer. Police say Tiwari had always given her wrong information about himself.

When money stopped
This time when Tiwari began demanding money from her, she refused to give it. He then threatened to leak her semi-nude pictures. The scared victim then registered a complaint with the DB Marg police station. Through their local informers the cops got a tip-off and then picked up Tiwari from his residence.

He has been booked under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with
relevant sections under IT Act and has been remanded in police custody till November 1.
