Mumbai Crime: 4-year-old kidnapped, raped in Govandi

A four-year-old girl from Govandi was kidnapped, raped and then found in an unconscious state near T-junction in Dharavi, the next morning. On Tuesday, the Dharavi police registered a case against an unidentified accused and have initiated their search for the absconders, along with the crime branch officials.

According to police officials, the four-year-old girl was playing with her three-year-old friend in the building premises when, at around 9pm, the girl went missing. Somehow, the parents of the survivor didn’t realise till the next afternoon that their daughter had been missing, and was found in Dharavi.

An officer from Dharavi police station, requesting anonymity, said, “The girl was playing with her friend when somebody took her. As the parents of the survivor were fighting, the mother had gone to her maternal residence the same evening, due to which, there was clear misunderstanding between the two, as the father assumed that the girl was with the mother, and the mother thought that she is sleeping in her residence.”

However, later on Tuesday, when the mother sensed something amiss, she asked the father, who works at a mutton shop, about their daughter’s whereabouts. “They looked for the girl in the area. After she couldn’t be located, they reported filed a complaint with the Govandi police station. The girl was eventually found in a semi-unconscious state at 9 am near T-junction at Dharavi by a labour, who took her to Dharavi police station,” added the officer.

After the girl was brought to the police station, she mentioned that she was from Govandi, so the Dharavi cops had informed the station house officers from Govandi police station. “After the parents reported to the police station, they were immediately sent to Sion hospital where the girl was admitted,” said an officer.

The Dharavi police have registered the case under relevant sections of kidnapping and rape while the girl has been declared out of danger.
