Mumbai Crime: Minor raped by brother-in-law when she went to attend a funeral

In a tragic incident a 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 16-year-old sister in law at his residence in Khar (East). The girl was there to attend her mother-in-law’s funeral as per reports by Hindustan Times.

The girl’s mother is said to have passed away in an accident at Bandra-Kurla-Complex a few days ago, and since then she has been living with her father and younger sister. The accused, her sister’s husband, lives in Rajkot, Gujrat, as per the police.  The accused had visited the girl’s house to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral and carried out the dastardly act when the girl was sleeping in her room next to her younger sister. As per the police, the accused went into the girl’s room and allegedly raped her, when her younger sister heard her cries, she woke up and tried to stop the man.He then assaulted her as well and sent her out of the room. 


The girl later fled the house and told her neighbours about the goings on. In the mean time the accused also fled from the scene. Once the girl registered a case at the Kherwadi police station two teams of policemen were deployed, to Rajkot and in Mumbai to look for the accused.  Police inspector Sunil Yadav of the Kherwadi police station said, the accused was arrested near Khar railway station on Thursday, and has been booked under section 376 (rape) 323 (assault) 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant sections of POCSO Act.
