A youth allegedly raped the four-year-old daughter of his neighbour after kidnapping her from outside her house. The girl’s parents learnt of the incident after she continued to complain of pain in her private parts and took her to a hospital. Doctors there advised the family to register a case.

The Malad police then arrested the accused on Saturday. According to the police, the accused, identified as Prabhu Keshavan Kondoor (25), is a college dropout and a resident of Malad. Kondoor was friendly with the survivor’s family.

On Wednesday evening, police said, Kondoor was alone at home and his parents had gone out for shopping. He noticed the child playing outside her house, and allegedly kidnapped her and brought her to his house. He then raped her, and left her outside her house. On the same day, the child’s grandmother found her bleeding from her private parts, but thought it could be due to the heat.

The next day, the girl continued suffering from pain and her parents took her to a local doctor. While giving medicine, the doctor asked the parents to get a medical check-up done in a hospital Early morning on Saturday, when the parents took the girl to a private hospital, they learnt she had been raped.

Milind Khetle, senior police inspector, Malad police station, said, “Doctors at the hospital suggested to the parents to file a rape case. The survivor also narrated the whole incident to us, and based on her statement, we registered the case on Saturday and arrested the accused Kondoor from his residence.”

The girl’s father works as a driver and her mother is a housewife. Kondoor has been unemployed since two years, after he dropped out from college. He has been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping) and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. He was produced in holiday court yesterday and remanded in police custody.
