Mumbai Airport conducts an anti hijacking mock drill

An Anti Hijacking Mock drill was conducted at the Mumbai Airport on Friday. This mock drill was a combined effort of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL)

An Anti Hijacking Mock drill was conducted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, (Mumbai Airport) on Friday. This mock drill was a combined effort of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL).


The Anti hijacking mock drill, that is conducted annually, was held from 4pm. Various agencies like MAIL, Airport Security Group (ASG), National Security Guard (NSG), Intelligence Bureau (IB), local police. This was one of the rare drills that had even Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy. The drill was conducted at the air-side of the terminal. Though the runway is shut for the regular maintenance every Friday, the drill according to Airport Official was conducted in a way that the flight operations remained unaffected.


“All the mock drills are performed on Fridays owing to the regular maintenance that takes place air side. The drill that around 300 personnel as participants was successfully completed by 5.30pm,” said an Airport Official.


Airport officials and security agencies had in mid-April this year conducted an anti-crash landing exercise on Friday, April 17 in which an old bus was burnt to simulate a crashed plane and ‘rescue’ operations were conducted on ‘passengers’. It involved all stakeholders Mumbai Airport International Ltd (MIAL), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), medical team, local police, fire brigade and intelligence bureau.
