Married women celebrated Vat Purnima, also called Vat Savitri, at Jogeshwari station on the Western Railway line on Tuesday.

Decked up in all their finery, women observed a fast and then performed the puja around the holy Vat tree, known as the peepal (banyan) tree.

It is believed that this Vrat (fast) can bless the devotee with good fortune and a better life. The name of this festival is given as per its significance. Women observe a fast and tie threads around a banyan tree and pray for the well-being and longevity of their husband and pray for the same husband in every birth.
